Garrett Scott Ball

Artist living in Brooklyn, NY

Garrett Ball (b 1991 Denver Colorado) is a human being grappling with a making addiction, satiated most commonly through the mediums of painting, print, and language.

He creates complex visual works that dissect western aesthetics of power and class. His intricate watercolor paintings and prints unfold into engrossing vistas of place and design. Ball twists traditional notions of composition by creating rich omni-directional works that challenge a viewer to absorb the dynamic presentation of the pieces and their reflection of systems around us.  After graduating with a BFA in scenic design from SUNY Purchase he painted scenery on broadway, film, and television productions. Ball received a MFA in visual arts from Columbia University in 2023.

He was a Leroy Neiman fellow and was awarded the Betty Lee Stern Prize for Artists at Columbia University School of the Arts.

He is a member of IATSE USA Local 829.

His work has been featured at New Collectors Gallery, Half Gallery, Fredric Snitzer Gallery, the Blanc, Storage Archive and the University of Richmond, Museum,
